Letting go of resentment gets results.
Ten years ago, Greg worked with two other partners, one of whom was Christian, in a financial services practice. On a particular project, Greg was never paid the compensation he had been promised.
The other Christian blamed the third partner for not paying Greg. A few months later, Greg left feeling angry, cheated and resentful toward both partners. It took a long time, but eventually he forgave them.
Recently, one of Greg’s best clients was seeking a position as CEO of a company. One of the requirements was that Greg’s client had to design a compensation package suited to this CEO position and the company’s profitability. He needed to move quickly to help his client and thought of the Christian man he had forgiven. It turned out the man was an expert in this area and worked successfully with Greg’s client and the company. Greg’s client got the job.
Greg realized that his forgiveness had opened the opportunity for his client to get the job. In fact, his client called him to thank him for helping him obtain the position.
