I have pastored churches of all sizes and shapes for over 30 years. For the past 13 1/2 years I was Senior Pastor of a large, growing, suburban church. We had over 4,500 members and averaged over 1,550 in Sunday School. The church was located in the suburbs of a major metropolitan area with subdivisions being built all around us. We were in a $5 million dollar building program adding nearly 40,000 square feet to our educational space. With our best days just ahead of us - God led me to ask our wonderful congregation to send me out as a Church Planter. In addition, he led me to ask them to phase me out of salary and support so I could become a "tentmaker" like Paul in the book of Acts. So when I write - it is from a Pastor's perspective - but a Pastor who now is in the workplace.
I understand how many pastors think. I understand how the pastor of a smaller church thinks and I understand how a mega church pastor thinks. I have been where many of you are today and have lived in situations similar to the ones you are facing right now. But for now, God is allowing me to understand more clearly how laymen think - understanding more and more about the unique pressures and opportunities many people out in the workplace experience every day. So - as a Pastor in the workplace - I want to help pastors everywhere learn how we can be used to mobilize an incredible army of Christians to retake some of the ground we have given up to the enemy.
